New AFC Wimbledon defender Deji Oshilaja can't wait to take to the pitch alongside Kwesi Appiah, admitting signing the former Crystal Palace and Peterborough United is a "big statement" for Neal Ardley's team.

Appiah joined the Dons last week while Oshilaja put pen to paper on Thursday evening to become Ardley's second addition of the summer.

And speaking to the AFC Wimbledon website, Oshilaja, who previously had a loan spell at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in 2015, was impressed with the current Dons squad and the direction in which Ardley is taking the team.

The former Cardiff defender said: "Bringing in Kwesi [Appiah] is a big statement and the other players here are top players as well. It's something I'm looking forward to being a part of and we can do well next season."

And Oshilaja admitted the chance to work with Ardley again, having played under him at Cardiff's academy, was also a draw.

"I had a few offers from other clubs, but as soon as i spoke to the gaffer here it was definitely something where I thought this is the place for me," he said.

"I thought I'm going to enjoy it here and do well. Neal was the one that gave me my first scholar and I've always got a place for him in my heart and he likes me as a player, so I'm looking forward to working with him again."
