STEVE Sidwell will serve a three-match ban after Fulham's appeal to overturn the midfielder's red card against QPR was rejected.

The tough-tackling 30-year-old was sent-off for a late challenge on Armand Traore during Monday night's 3-2 win at Craven Cottage.

He will now miss the games against Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

A statement on the club's website said: “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Wednesday, Steve Sidwell has had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected.

“Sidwell was dismissed for Serious Foul Play during our game at home to Queens Park Rangers on 1st April 2013.

“The player's three-match ban will therefore commence with immediate effect, meaning he will miss our trips to Newcastle United and Aston Villa, as well as our SW6 derby against Chelsea at Craven Cottage.”
