QPR took a second point on the road in four days - thanks to a tremendous display from keeper Alex Smithies and a debut hit for Daniel Tozser.

The Rs of the second half was a different animal that were all but overrun in the first, and when Tozser smashed a terrific 25-yard drive to put Hoops ahead it looked like the second south Yorkshire win after Rangers victory at Rotherham last month.

Sadly, the defensive frailties that have haunted Hoops made an unwelcome return when Atdhe Nuhiu headed home to level.

However, it needed a fine penalty save from Smithies to deny the giant striker two for the night and an Rs defeat.

Nedum Onuoha dived in on Gary Hooper to bring a penalty two minutes into the second period.

But there was a groan from home fans when Nuhiu stepped up to take the spot-kick - and with good reason.

Smithies was down to his left smartly to make those groans twice as loud.

The game lost the match referee as well when Andy Davies was replaced by Graham Salisbury in the second period, but Smithies remained rock-like to deny Kieran Lee and then Lucas João was denied in the final seconds.

The first 45 minutes was pretty much a Sheffield Wednesday furrow towards Rs goal.

Former loan Hoop Lee fired over after just two minutes, and an audacious 20-yard drive from Ross Wallace flew just wide. Another well-worked move came asunder when Nuhiu needed an extras shoe size to reach Daniel Pudil's cross at the far post.

However, when the massive Wednesday striker was through on goal, it needed Smithies at his best to parry the effort.

Nuhiu dismay came to the fore when he went in late for a loose ball that needed treatment for the Rs keeper - but Smithies had the last laugh.
