Andy Scott launched a blistering attack on his Brentford side after they ended the season with a damp squib defeat at Stockport on Saturday.

And he warned he will make sweeping changes next season as he strives to change the mentality of his players.

It was a third successive defeat for the Bees, who were told by their boss many of them won't be around next season.

Scott said: " I didn't bother shouting at them after the game because a lot of them won't be here next season, so there's no point wasting breath on them. "I have made my mind up about which players I want to have next season, and that was borne out today. It was an insipid performance."

The furious Bees manager pointed to the four fans who walked from Griffin Park to Stockport's ground to raise funds for the club and said: "We had people walk from Brentford, and they put more effort into their walk than our lads put into this game." Scott was visibly angry as he emerged from the tunnel at Edgeley Park to describe his side's performance against Stockport's kids and reserves as insipid, pathetic and utterly lacking in desire.

He said: " It's appropriate that we ended on that note, because that's the way we have been this season - not good enough. "The majority of those people will not be here next season. You can tell them what you like after the game and during it, but their reaction is the same as we got on the pitch - nothing. I expected a few words back, but no - it tells you I am probably right in what I am saying.

"We had players out there who obviously weren't too concerned about their careers, but they should be after today.

"They all say the right things in the dressing room. They all say the right things when they need to, but they don't actually do it."

But Scott is relishing the blank canvas he now has to work with and promised: "I'm going to work very hard over the next three months to give fans like those walkers a side they can be proud of.

"I've got to go away now for a couple of months and have that taste in my mouth, so it's going to be a busy summer. I always knew it would be - but it might be even busier now."
