Older Fulham fans will remember the fantastic First Division clash at Craven Cottage on December 26, 1963 when the Whites rolled over the Tractor Boys 10-1 with Scottish international striker Graham Leggat scoring a hat-trick in just three minutes - a record for the fastest three in the English top flight that stands to this day.

Ipswich were having a dreadful season and ended up relegated having shipped 121 goals. But it is typical of Fulham that having trounced Ipswich on Boxing Day, they went to Portman Road for the return fixture just two days later and got beaten 4-2.

There’s only one word to described that: Fulhamish. They can only hope it isn't the same on Saturday evening.

Past tense: John Collins fires in a free-kick against the Ipswich wall in 2002

In fact, the all-time record between the two is remarkably similar. Fulham have won eight, lost six and drawn seven. The last time they met was 12 years ago in the Premier League at Portman Road and Ipswich won that 1-0 against Jean Tigana’s 2002 side with an early goal from Marcus Bent deciding all.

Earlier at the Cottage in October 2001, the sides drew 1-1 with the humble carpenter Barry Hayles, still carving out a career at 42 with Truro City in the Southern Premier Division, on target.

That starting line-up was littered with a fair few Tigana types and star turn, the keeper, Edwin van der Sar, supported by Steve Finnan, Andy Melville, Alain Goma, Rufus Brevett, Sylvain Legwinski, Lee Clark, John Collins, Luis Boa Morte, Steve Marlet, and Hayles.
