Phil Babb says the match officials had no choice but to abandon Hayes & Yeading’s Skrill South clash at Dorchester Town last night.

Referee Adrian Quelch made the call after 30 minutes of torrential rain at the Avenue Stadium with the scoreline still goalless.

Five of Hayes & Yeading’s last six matches have been postponed due to poor weather, much to the frustration of United boss Babb.

However, the former Liverpool defender believes there was no other option but to leave the field on Tuesday evening.

He said: “The weather was horrendous and the pitch was unplayable. It became dangerous for the players.

“Unfortunately for all those that travelled it was the correct decision.”

Babb had sent out Inih Effiong for his Hayes & Yeading debut and handed a start to Danny Wishart, returning to the club on loan from Alfreton.
