Reading manager Jaap Stam believes play should have been stopped in the build-up to the penalty decision which gave QPR their second goal in the 2-0 victory at Loftus Road.

Jón Dadi Bödvarsson was brought down by a bad challenge by Joel Lynch in the build-up to a Reading attack, but remained on the floor clutching his knee as QPR hit the Royals on the counter, a move which ultimately led to Conor Washington scoring from the penalty spot.

When asked about whether play should have been stopped, Stam said: "I think so yes.

"I think the play should have been stopped before, because Bodvarsson was on the floor.

"Thats up to the referee of course and up to the fourth official as well when reading the game and reading the situation, because what happened at the time went on and on and on, and he was screaming in pain because of his knee.

"After that he makes a couple of decisions that when somebody is down he immediately stops the game, but I know it’s not easy for the referees, as well."
