READING are set to beat Fulham to the signing of Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak .

The frontman scored six goals in 12 starts for the Whites during a successful loan spell in the second half of last season.

Boss Martin Jol was hopeful of wrapping up a permanent deal for the 28-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Stuttgart.

However, Premier League rivals Reading have snatched Pog from under their noses after offering him a four-year deal worth £65k-a-week.

It is a big blow for Jol, who also saw Andy Johnson quit Craven Cottage this week for west London neighbours QPR after snubbing a new contract.
