Junior Hoilett could not have done things differently at QPR - even if he wanted to.

The forward is currently reminding everybody why Rs snapped him up three years ago with a crop of performances that culminated in a super goal at Bristol City on Saturday for a 1-1 draw (see gallery).

But for too long Hoilett has led a shadow existence, the evidence of which is 39 league starts in three-and-a-half seasons and seven goals - less than a third of the total.

Finally declaring for Canada, the land of his birth, and recent World Cup games has ‘boosted’ the renaissance. That, an arm around the Hoilett shoulder from the last two men in charge.

“When Neil Warnock came in he showed belief, and when the new boss came in (Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink) he did the same thing," Hoilett said. "I’m happy to be able to express myself on the pitch and it has given me a great boost.

“Any player would feel the same way, especially when you’re told not to worry about making mistakes.”

Hoilett flat-batted questions about what's next when his contract is up at the end of the season, but was adamant turning into a pushy type, always in the manager’s face for games, is not for him.

He said: “I like to keep myself. That’s not me; I am who I am.”

Has he asked for loans during the lean times? And would a move back to the Bundesliga, where his first-team career started on loan, suit him in the future?

“No comment (on any loan request); and on Germany, it’s something to consider. I can adapt to any league; the ball is round and you should be able to work with any manager,” Hoilett said.

“But I’m happy to just play now and get the side promotion starting with three points at Ipswich on Boxing Day.”
