RICHARD Dunne may be a ‘big lump’ as his manager puts it – but is set to be a major player for QPR this season.

The central defender (pic) was in the wilderness after a glittering top-flight career with Aston Villa and Manchester City until snapped up by Harry Redknapp on a free transfer in the summer.
And it’s understood there is a clause in contract of the player who will be 34 next month that releases him from Rangers if he breaks down through injury – but Harry doesn’t expect it.

He said: “Dunny has been getting better and better. He’s going to be a major player for us this year, and he seems to be over the injury he got – touch wood.

“People never used to understand with Richard Dunne he had the pace – he was lightning quick.

“No one could run Dunny.

“People thought because he was a big lump he wasn’t quick.

He’s not quite as quick as he was then, but people use to amaze me when they would say: ‘he can’t run’. I would say ‘sorry, but you must have the wrong bloke.’”
