As soon as Charlie Austin scored the winner in a 3-2 win over Leicester on Saturday he ran over to collect a team shirt from the sidelines.
Holding it aloft with the number 24 on the back perplexed just about all the 18,000 plus fans inside the ground.
But it was later revealed it happened to be the birth date of Hoops fan Alice Brooks who died this week suddenly not days after winning a signed shirt by another player.
Alice was born January 24, 1995. She was 19.
Dedications apart, Austin's seventh of the season was testimony to a gritty performance as manager Harry Redknapp agreed.
"It was a great game of football wasn't it?" he said.
"Both teams went for it, they scored the early goal and then we came back at them strong and they're always a threat on the counter with the pace they've got. But we played our football and that's as well as we've played in that first half.
"They played well too don't get me wrong, but for us to come back to 2-2 and then get the winner with Charlie, it was a great game of football. We showed a lot of character today, especially in the first half.
"They pinned us in later in the game and got it in the box and it was all hands to the pump, but we defended for our lives and we got the win. Today, we've scored three so we're scoring goals, but we defended well too. All round, it was a great performance."
