MATTY Phillips has unfinished business with the Premier League and Scotland – and admits he has been in touch with manager Gordon Strachan to find out where he stands.

The £5million QPR winger made his long-awaited debut as an enforced sub against Birmingham on Saturday and was started Wednesday night's goalless draw with Brighton, with Strachan watching on in the crowd.

Phillips only got one season at the top in Blackpool’s ill-fated campaign three seasons ago, and has since shouldered the Championship and a fair few injuries.

The Bucks-born player qualifies for Scotland by virtue of his grandparents, but after a 2012 switch of allegiance to all things tartan, was restricted to just two appearances for his adopted country.

He said: “I’ve spoken to Gordan Strachan a couple of times, so now I have to play well for QPR.

“I’ve come to Rangers wanting to play well. So as long as I do, I can’t see why that’s not the case to get more caps.”

Phillips agreed he enjoyed the taste of the top flight with Tangerines, and insisted he is good enough to get a second crack at life with the millionaires.

“Without a doubt,” he added. “Away from the relegation side of it with Blackpool, it gave me a good experience in the Premier League.

“But first and foremost I’ve got to hold down a place here (at QPR) and what will be, will be.”
