QPR’s Jamie Mackie will miss the start of the new Championship season after suffering an injury in training.

The Hoops attacker damaged ankle ligaments in training as he worked his way back towards fitness after missing the end of last season following hamstring surgery.

QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink expects the forward to spend the next three months on the sidelines.

He said: “It is hugely disappointing news for Jamie, and for us.

“He has worked incredibly hard over the summer to give himself the best chance of being fit as soon as possible, so I really feel for him.

“We all know how determined an individual Jamie is, and we look forward to having him fit and available for selection.”

QPR boss Hasselbaink is taking his Hoops to face his former club Burton Albion in a pre-season friendly this evening.

Jake Bidwell and Joel Lynch have recovered from injury issues and are expected to take their place in the squad for the trip.
