The ultimate fitness test for QPR players is the Ian Holloway pyramid run - and Pawel Wszolek is top of the pops when it comes to getting around the circuit.

Lungs and just about everything else are on the floor when required to complete 20x40x80x100 metres and back down again in 3mins 30secs.

The Pole is closer to three minutes for the gut buster, and is in the boss's good books as a result.

It’s shown in recent matches as well, much to the delight of team-mate Jamie Mackie.

“He’s (Holloway) used the pyramid run as a gauge throughout his whole career and had a lot of success with it,” Mackie explained.

Oh, how happy! Pawel Wszolek celebrates with Jamie Mackie (L)

“Pavel is a real fit lad so he kind of eats that run up where I have been out a long time, so it has been a good marker for me to do it and see how close I am to the other lads, but naturally I keep myself in good shape.”

After a slowish start, Wszolek is hitting form with three goals that have notched seven points for Rangers this season, the last against Ipswich on Monday for back-to-back wins.

It bodes well for an offer of a permanent deal after his loan from Serie A side Hellas Verona in the summer.

Mackie looked on with envious eyes as the Pole notched the winner against the Tractor Boys.

“I would have been very happy with Pavel’s finish believe me,” he said.

“He has stepped up to the plate the last couple of games when we have needed him.

“He is really buying into being over here and he is a great lad. We have got a duty amongst us British players to bring them into the group which we will always do.”
