Burnley will be out to shackle QPR at Lofus Road on Saturday - and one man in particular will be keeping a close eye on ex-teammate Charlie Austin.

Clarets defender and captain Jason Shackell played alongside the Hoops striker in the 2012-13 season when he scored 28 goals.

And Tyrone Marshall from the Lancashire Telegraph believes the battle between the pair will be a very interesting one.

Marshall said: "He is the key man in the back four and was superb against Newcastle in midweek.

"That was Sean Dyche’s 100th game in charge, and remarkably Shackell has played every minute of all 100 games.

"His partner at the back has changed in recent weeks, with the 36-year-old Michael Duff out with a calf injury, and 21-year-old Michael Keane, on loan from Manchester United, has come in alongside him for the last two games."

Marshall's next choice is Danny Ings whose return to the Burnley side from a hamstring injury has coincided with the Clarets putting together a run of form that sees them arrive in west London unbeaten in four-games.

Key man: Danny Ings

Marshall said: "Undoubtedly Burnley’s key man, Ings has scored six goals in his last seven starts for club and country and he has looked very sharp and is in excellent form at the moment.

"His goals will be key to the Clarets’ chances of survival this season, if he can continue to find the back of the net on a regular basis then they will be in with a chance of staying up come May.

"He is out of contract in the summer and at the moment there is no sign of a new deal being signed, but the club say he will not be sold in January.

Marshall's third choice never stops running - at least if the figures are anything to go by.

Midfielder George Boyd, who is Burnley's joint record signing after signing from Hull for £3m in the summer covered 8.29 miles in the win at Stoke - the highest by a Premier League player this season.

Boyd grabbed his second goal of the season in Tuesday's draw with Newcastle and Marshall says he has settled in well at Turf Moor.

Hard worker: George Boyd

He added: "As well as his creativity and clever use of the ball Boyd brings with him a tremendous work rate.

"Boyd has spent most of his time on the right so far this season, where he has developed a good understanding with Kieran Trippier, moving inside to allow the full-back to overlap."
