The latest QPR teenager to make his first team debut reckons this is a great time to be part of the club’s academy.

The winds of change saw Reece Grego-Cox join Darnell Furlong in getting a first taste of the Premier League when the Hammersmith-born striker played the last two minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Spurs on Saturday.

Rangers have vowed to make better use of their youth set-up, and despite the result, the 18-year-old thinks first-team involvement can only be good for the club.

“You’ve got to give the credit to Chris (Ramsey) and Les (Ferdinand),” Grego-Cox said. “We now know there’s an opportunity for everyone to grab it with two hands and run with it. We can only get better because we’re training with the first team.”

Grego-Cox has been revving up for his bow on the pitch since he was a member of the group that travelled to Sunderland, and on the periphery for the midweek defeat to Arsenal.

When he got the call to get his training kit off against Tottenham, there were no butterflies.

Grego-Cox added: “I was ready. I could see Charlie (Austin) limping and the adrenaline was kicking in, and I was more confident than anything else.”
The Rangers fan has been at the club since he was 14, and his own fan club were there to see the sparking moment.

“My mum, dad, sister, girlfriend, and a lot of QPR friends that I know were there. I’m a striker, but getting on anywhere will do, so sitting in behind the strikers ready for knockdowns suits me well.”
