Conor Washington admits scoring goals is not QPR's main focus right now.

Disgruntled fans will no doubt agree after Rangers drew a blank for the second game running last night in the 1-0 defeat to Derby.

In fact, Washington and co have scored only once in the last four games - and that a mere consolation in a 2-1 home defeat to Wolves.

Skipper Nedum Onuoha reckoned new boss Ian Holloway would be happy to win games 12-11.

But the truth, according to the former Peterborough striker bought for £2 million in January, appears to be different.

Striker Washington revealed the day-to-day focus of training is on defence, with little or no time as yet given to scoring goals.

Hard work: Conor Washington tumbles under a challenge from Brentford's Romaine Sawyers

“Defensive structure and organisation is what we have been working on recently and I think the attacking-play is going to come in training in the next few weeks,” he said

“At the moment, it is still a little bit off the cuff and we are working from a defensive shape.

“We literally haven’t got around to doing the attacking movements yet.

"We have touched on them and I think that showed especially in the first half when I thought we looked really bright around the box and had a few opportunities to get shots off which hasn’t happened over the last few games.”

Despite the stark admission, the Northern Ireland front-man believes the Derby loss, where all statistics bar the goals column were in his side’s favour, proves Rangers are heading in the right direction.

All that is needed now he says is a bit of patience and a healthy dose of lady luck - starting with a high noon test on Sunday at home to Aston Villa.

“It’s evident from today it is working,” he added.

“Those who were at the game would have seen possession-wise we edged it and I’m definitely sure their keeper made more saves than ours did. On the balance of play we deserved more.

“The goals are coming too. Chez (Chery) has hit an unbelievable strike and the keeper has flung an arm at it and somehow it has not gone in.

"When we are on a run like we are at the minute things just don’t seem to go your way.”
