Andy Johnson reckons QPR thoroughly deserved their 2-1 win over Huddersfield – but reckoned his side made hard work of it.

Johnson was getting a rare start alongside leading scorer Charlie Austin who scored first courtesy of a Johnson assist.

However, Nahki Wells nearly grabbed a point for the Terriers before Austin headed the winner to herald plenty of sighs of relief from the home side, not least because leaders Leicester had beaten Leeds away.

Johnson said: “I think we made it harder than we needed to, but we dug in, and showed we had the quality at the end.

“Leicester won again today and it’s important that we stay close.

“There’s not too many games where there is going to be flash football, and teams come here with a game plan.

“Teams are well aware we are one of the favourites and they come here and make it hard for us.

“You look at our season: when we’ve had to dig in we have, and when we’ve got space we’ve played our football.

“Charlie’s a great player and I’ve had a couple of assists myself, It would be great to have more game time with him – but that’s not up to me.”
