Bobby Zamora reckons his personal QPR fan club keeps him going.
As ever, his name was sung from the Loftus Road rafters in the 67 minutes he was on the pitch in the 0-0 draw with former club West Ham on Saturday.
The 34-year-old barely trains as he rests his battered body between games, and although he had rocky moments with fans at previous club Fulham, the striker insists he’s been lucky with supporters during most of his career.
“You can’t please every fan all the time,” he said. “But scoring that (Championship 2014 play-off final) goal obviously helps here at Rangers.
“I think I’ve won around fans at every club. At West Ham, scoring a winning goal in the play-off final, and helping the team to go through to a European final with Fulham also made a difference. I’d like to think I’ve been liked at every club.
“I hope QPR fans get behind me and the rest of the lads for the remaining games, starting with Liverpool.
“People write off those games saying you can’t win, but I’ve played in games where we’ve beaten top sides.” The forward also believes coach Chris Ramsey should get the top job full-time regardless whether Rangers stay up or go down
“He’s done a good job. He puts on some good sessions and we’ve been desperately unlucky in so many games. With a bit of luck, we would be a few points clear and everybody would be saying the job’s his for sure.”
