QPR striker Kevin Doyle backs himself to add a heap of goals now he’s restored to his favourite front man role.

Far from worried he won’t make the step-up from League One Wolves to his new Championship club, the 30-year-old believes he has a better chance of replicating the form that once rated him at £7million.

He scored in Sunday's 3-1 defeat to old club Reading and was off the mark in seven minutes against Burnley on his home debut.

Rangers were put off by the asking price two seasons ago, and Doyle suffered back-to-back demotions with the fallen Midlands giant.

This season before the switch to west London, the forward netted only three times against third tier sides.

But as he revealed, it was hardly his fault.

“I wasn’t playing up top at Wolves. I was more of an attacking midfielder although I enjoyed it,” he said. “It was something different.

“But I was never going to score as many goals from that position. Listen, if I’m picked to play in there it’s not my job to go moaning about it.”

Doyle reckons he also stands a chance of resurrecting his international career after manager Giovanni Trapattoni was sacked as Ireland boss in September.

The Italian famously let Doyle know by text message he was out of a World Cup qualifier against Sweden in March – although all is forgiven, it appears.

Doyle added: “It’s a long way to the next important qualifier, and if I can play well at QPR then things will take care of themselves.

“You mightn’t believe me but Trapattoni’s text doesn’t bother me. I’ve forgiven him 100 per cent. I don’t dwell on that, and wish him all the best.

“But after two games and one squad, I can’t tell you whether the new regime is more relaxed.

"It might be different when we play more important qualifying games.”
