Alex Smithies says Queens Park Rangers will continue to fight for points rather than slipping into an end of season lull.

After winning five games in their previous seven games, the Hoops have lost two on the bounce away from home, narrow 1-0 defeats at Derby and Aston Villa.

The club are still clear of the Championship relegation zone, but Smithies wants to make sure they are mathematically safe and try to finish as high as they can.

This summer looks huge for Rangers, with arrivals and departures as boss Ian Holloway shapes his starting XI further for a promotion assault next season.

"We can't get in the frame of mind of there's nothing to play for, you don't want to be dragged down towards the bottom," Smithies told Get West London.

"It looks like we have got a good chance of staying up but we have to be certain for that and mathematically clear.

"To be honest, our main focus is looking up the table rather than what's below us, but we do need to start picking up wins again to do that."
