QPR playmaker Tjaronn Chery has been really happy with how he has adjusted from playing in the Dutch Eredivisie to performing in the English Championship.

The Dutchman made the move across the North Sea to Loftus Road from top-flight Dutch outfit FC Groningen last summer and, despite periods spent out of the side, 27-year-old Chery is overjoyed with his personal success to date.

He has bagged eight goals in 30 games so far this campaign and has impressed alongside Sebastian Polter in recent weeks.

He said: “I am really happy with my first season here. I didn’t really play for two months, but since I have come back I have played well, and the team has also played well.

“Sometimes if you don’t play for a long time you think ‘What do I have to do?’ and you are a little bit frustrated, but you have to think positively. If you train well it will always come”.

Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv were interested in the Dutchman in January but it did little to turn the head of Chery, whose sole focus is to gain promotion from the Championship.

He said: “With every club I have played with before, I played two years and then I made a new step.

“With QPR it’s different because I want to go with QPR to the Premier League.

“I know there was some interest [from Tel-Aviv] because there was a Dutch coach, but I think it was too early to say goodbye because I want to play in England.

“I want to play in the Premier League and I know I can play like I am playing now – I score goals and I’m important for the team.

“That’s why I didn’t want to say goodbye in the winter. It was too early for me”.

Should QPR hang on to Chery?

Rangers host third-placed Middlesbrough in front of Sky Sports cameras tonight and while the attacking midfielder still believes a top-six place is reachable, he agrees a defeat would decrease the likelihood of that possibility.

“If you don’t believe then you are never winners, but I think we have to win this game and see what happens. If you lose then it’s a little bit harder, but I think it is possible.

“It’s not easy to go from the Championship to the Premier League, but of course QPR is a big club so obviously you have to go back to the Premier League.”
