QPR are in need of a winger before the transfer window closes but Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will not pay over the odds for one.

The departure of Matt Phillips has left Rangers short in that position and the club are keen to strengthen in that area.

But, whatever money they do spend, QPR will not be splashing the cash to the extent they have in previous seasons.

Hasselbaink said: “I'd hope (we sign a winger before the deadline). We don't pay over the odds and we're not going to do that. I believe in our way.

Departed: Matt Phillips

“This is what we have and are happy with. If you demonstrate that and that signal goes through, you get a better commitment together.

“If they know, one is here, one is there I think it brings trouble. When it's much closer, you get a better togetherness I hope.

“That's what we're trying to create. We're not going to pay over the odds. It didn't work in the past but, the most important thing, is what we can offer them and what is different and what can we give them that is different.

“I believe if you have that right, you can still get a lot of good talent and good players don't get me wrong. We're still very competitive with the contracts. It's not that competitive.”
