SCOTT Parker would be a great addition to the QPR squad – and that comes from a player who could be sidelined by the England midfielder.

Gary O’Neil enjoyed a spell with Parker towards the end of the 2010-11 season when both were at West Ham.

But as a fellow midfielder, newly arrived O’Neil could see his time on the Rangers bench extended should his one-time Hammers team-mate follow him to Loftus Road.

O’Neil made his home debut in the 1-0 win over Ipswich as a second-half sub on Saturday, but strongly disagrees he will move down the pecking order if Parker accepts QPR terms to play in the Championship.

“The more the merrier; I’ve got no problem with Scott coming, and I’ve started sub for the last two games,” said O’Neil.

“We all want to get promoted and we’re going to need more than 11 players in a 46-game season.

“Scott could still do a job in the Premiership, so to get him here would be fantastic.”

O’Neil admitted joining Rs on a free was a no-brainer after West Ham made him an offer he was most definitely able to refuse.

He explained:  “The deal I was offered (at West Ham) was sort of a squad player type of contract and I didn’t think I was going to get many minutes on the pitch.

“It was ‘you can stay and help us for a year and we’ll use you when you’re needed, but we’re not that bothered if you stay or not’ was the sort of thing.

“But when I spoke to Harry (Rs boss, Redknapp) he was keen to have me here especially after two promotions with him at Portsmouth and West Ham – and I’m glad I joined.”
