Leroy Fer believes QPR has the advantage of knowing what lies beneath - and above - in contrast to the midfielder’s demotion with Norwich last season.

Fer and the Canaries were seemingly safe this time last year, that is until the last four games.

Norwich gained only the single point, ironically at Chelsea, and went down with Fulham and three points adrift of safety.

Goal! Leroy Fer scores at Sunderland before getting injured

Fer is close to full fitness after suffering a medial ligament knee injury in the 2-0 win over Sunderland in February, and could be named on the bench to face West Ham on Saturday.

A win, and Rs hope breathe hope they will survive. For the Dutchman, it will be an even bigger boost to a prayer he won’t suffer relegation twice on the bounce.

Forlorn Cause: Leroy Fer, then at Norwich battles Fulham's Brede Hangeland

He said: “Sure, it gives me more motivation to keep Rangers in the Premier League. I can’t go down two years in a row. But we need a big lift - and that starts Saturday.

“We had a good team at Norwich, but with all respect, I think we have a better team with QPR now.

“Last year with Norwich it was OK until the last four games of the season. We can look at the table now, and say there’s pressure but you have to look at yourself.”

If results go Rangers way for once, including a home win over West Ham, they could leap from 19th to 16th in one bound: a Burnley win over resurgent Leicester would be very welcome now.
