Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is counting the cost of pre-season injuries as he prepares for the big kick-off against Leeds United.

The QPR manager has been holding his first pre-match press conference of the new campaign as the Hoops prepare to host Hasselbaink’s old club on Sunday.

However, Rangers will be deprived of several players, including new signing Ariel Borysiuk, as competitive football returns to Loftus Road this weekend.

Hasselbaink said: “Borysiuk is getting back. He's out of his boot. He'll be another two and a half, three weeks.

“From next week he can start running so that's a plus. Jamie Mackie is still in a plaster – that was a big blow for us.

“Jack Robinson has shin splints and that is one that you can't put any time on so you have to be really patient with that.”

One new signing who is likely to feature for Rangers is summer recruit from Brentford , Jake Bidwell, and the defender is raring to go against Leeds.

Bidwell added: “We need to get some positive momentum going and getting a good start is vitally important over the coming weeks.

“Getting to the first international break in a good position and kicking on from there is our focus right now.

“Everyone has talked about the big teams coming down, which is going to make it more competitive and tough, but we have had a good pre-season and we are confident.

“We’re all really looking forward to the Leeds game. We can’t wait for the season to get underway now.”
