Ariel Borysiuk will miss the start of QPR’s season after sustaining an ankle injury that is likely to leave him sidelined for six weeks.

The 24-year-old Polish midfielder, who signed on a three-year deal from Legia Warsaw in June, has twisted his ankle and did not feature in the Hoops’ 1-1 draw at Northampton Town last night.

QPR manager, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, said: “It is something we can’t do anything about. He is a strong boy but we think it is going to be six weeks.”

Last night’s game against the League One side also saw new signing Jordan Cousins make his QPR debut, coming on in the second half and impressing both on the ball and out of possession.

“Jordan is naturally fit and that helps,” Hasselbaink added. “We need more goals from midfield and he brings with him that urgency with how he plays.”

Nasser El Khayati scored in the 80th minute, before the Cobblers’ Alex Revell equalised with four minutes to spare at Sixfields Stadium.

Impressive: Jordan Cousins made his debut

With opportunities from Tjaronn Chery, Nedum Onuoha and Ben Gladwin, Hasslebaink was also pleased with the impact 19-year-old Olamide Shodipo had on the game.

Shodipo, who has spent the last three years at Loftus Road, has been awarded significant time on the pitch this pre-season.

Hasslebaink explained: “We want to bring players through from the youth if they are good enough.

“He is young so we need to take care of him, which is why I gave him just 70 minutes. He did well in the game, especially in the second half, but you have to be careful with younger players. I am very happy with him.”

QPR's pre-season continues on Friday when they face Wycombe Wanderers, before taking on Burton Albion on 26th July and Watford at home on 30th July.
