RANGERS will have to do without skipper Joey Barton for the next three matches after the FA rejected their appeal against his red card in Monday's defeat to Norwich.

The QPR midfielder was sent-off for an off-the-ball clash with Canaries star Bradley Johnson during the first-half of the game at Loftus Road.

However, the Rs yesterday lodged an appeal against the decision to the FA as they believed Barton's punishment should be reduced to a yellow card.

But the club's claim for wrongful dismissal was dismissed this afternoon, which means the captain will miss the games against MK Dons, Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic.

Barton said: "Devastated to miss return to SJP [St James' Park] and FA Cup tie but life goes on. Feel sympathy for those who have never played yet set the rules."
