Robert Green reckons back-to-back wins will be the real reason QPR stay in the Premier League.

The heartening 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday was all well and good, but the keeper’s fine display might count for little if the club is brought back to earth with a defeat at Newcastle after the international break.

Green painfully remembered the 2004-05 season when he was relegated on the last day courtesy of a 6-0 caning at Fulham.

Down and different haircut: Green gets that sinking feeling at Fulham in 2005

That season was and still is the lowest total posted by a surviving team, 34 points by West Brom who beat Portsmouth and sent the Canaries down with Green in goal.

The keeper quite rightly remembered Norwich failed to win an away game that season, and insists it will be any relegated side’s downfall.

Rs have yet to break their duck on the road.

He added: “What can prove the difference is back to back wins, and getting a run of games without defeat.

“West Ham, Newcastle; they’ve shown this, and when we played West Ham we would have been level on points with them had we won.”

However, the keeper and co are heartened by spirited efforts against three top sides over the last four games, and reckons the vibe is miles different to the last enforced rest when Rs capitulated at West Ham.

“It re-confirmed what we believed about going into the international break on a positive. Four points from four game is enough to keep us in touch,” he added.

“And yeah, if you’re at it and on it like we have been in these games and work hard you give yourself a chance.”
