Matt Ingram made his home debut for QPR in the 1-1 draw with Reading on Saturday (see video above) - but says his first ever foray into league football was the big moment.

The man who gave the Rs keeper his break against Accrington Stanley in March 2013 knows all about Loftus Road.

Gareth Ainsworth was player and twice Rs caretaker boss in seven long years from 2003 to 2010 before finding success up the M40 with Wycombe Wanderers.

It was Ainsworth who had no hesitation in recommending Rangers to Ingram when his old club came calling in January.

Ingram leapt two leagues in a pen stroke - and the keeper will be forever grateful.

He added: “He gave me my debut and was brave enough to put me in as a 19-year-old. Go on kid - there’s your chance and he stuck with me for the two, three years I was there.

“As soon as QPR came up, he told me it was a great club; a family club, and I wanted to join.”
