In their quest to find a new keeper – QPR have trialled a player who was the youngest ever to don Scotland’s shirt at U21 level.

Jonny Henly ditched his chances of playing Ross County in the Scottish Premier League in the hope of winning a contract at Loftus Road.

The 21-year-old made his bid in a 4-3 win for a Hendon against an Rs XI this week that was also served as a testimonial for long-serving Greens’ manager Gary McCann.

Hendon boss: Gary McCann

Henly has been around the block a bit as a Reading keeper since he joined the Royals as a junior.

Loan spells at Aldershot Town, Oxford United, Maidenhead United, Welling United in the Conference, as well as stints in goal for Scotland U19s and U21s earned him a trial with Ross, ninth in the SPL, last term – but Henly wants to remain in the south after being released by the Royals.

Rangers already have eyes on Southend’s Dan Bentley after the departure of Alex McCarthy to Crystal Palace, and fear Rob Green may be snatched away just before the transfer window slams shut on on September 1.
