CHARLIE Austin has pleaded with QPR fans to lay off fellow striker Bobby Zamora.

The former England international has come in for a fair bit of stick from those in Hoops, and the newest member of the forward line is mystified.

He points out Zamora’s (pic) contribution has been largely overlooked, even though a combination of Austin and Andrew Johnson have kept Zamora reduced to sub or subbed in the six games so far.

Austin said: “I don’t understand the criticism for Bobby. We’ve linked up and played well and we’re in a side that’s unbeaten.

“There’s a lot more to a centre forward’s game than goals. But it’s a massive boost when you score a goal, but when that doesn’t happen you’ve got to do a different job for the team.

"He played for England, he’s big and strong and it’s been a pleasure to work with him.”
