QPR fear Rob Green could still get snapped up and leave them without a recognised keeper.
Reserve Alex McCarthy is set to sign for Crystal Palace in a £3m deal after a year of frustration as Green’s number two. But with only academy rookie Joe Lumley waiting in the wings, head coach Chris Ramsey is counting the days to the end of the transfer window
“If Alex does leave, I’m hoping Rob’s going to stay,” the coach said.
“If I’m at another club, I’m trying to get Rob because he’s fantastic and trains like someone in his twenties. Other clubs should be trying to poach him, but I hope they don’t.”
Green had his best season ever despite relegation in May, and deservedly earned a first recall to the England camp in three years.
Chelsea were keen to take the 35-year-old before they opted to sign Asmir Begovic instead.
Ironically, Green earlier commented the ex-Stoke keeper had being trying to get a move ‘forever.'
But Ramsey doesn’t believe Rangers are out of the Green woods yet, especially as there is only a year left on the number one’s contract.
“It’s still our choice whether we sell Rob,” he said. “But you’re right, we could be in vulnerable position. Les (Ferdinand, director off football) and the board members are making sure that won’t happen.”
