Jamie Mackie is headed back to QPR on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest - according to reports.

The midfielder who made 85 appearances for Hoops between 2010-13 is apparently going to take a hefty cut in his £25,000-a-week wages at the City Ground to rejoin the club that saw him become something of a cult hero.

Last season, Mackie was on loan at Reading where he helped the Royals to their first FA Cup semi-final in 88 years.

However, Rs fans have taken to social media in numbers to both praise and condemn the move in equal measure.

The great escape: Mackie celebrates with fans at Manchester City on the final day of the 2011-12 season

Some praised the 29-year-old’s non-stop workrate during games; others criticised his lack of pace and skill on the ball.

There is a feeling Mackie is exactly what the club needs after a procession of mercenaries who never really took the club to heart.

Some worry it’s a backward step when the club should be looking to bring younger talent through.

It appears a deal has been struck to add Mackie to the three other new signings so far that include Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Ben Gladwin and Massimo Luongo.
