A petition has been started by QPR fans to persuade owner Tony Fernandes to grant Rs legend Stan Bowles a benefit match.

Although the club last season dedicated a match in Bowles' honour after it was revealed he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, he has never been awarded a testimonial by the club as he was not with the Rs for 10 years.

This is seen as an oversight by the petition organisers, as despite not having made it to a decade's service, Bowles scored 97 goals in 315 appearances over seven years with the Rs, and was once voted their best ever player in a poll.

The only testimonial Bowles had was one at west London neighbours Brentford, where he wound down his career over three years in the early 1980s.

The petition has been live for three days and has so far gained just over half of its initial target of 500 singatories. It can be found at https://www.change.org/p/tony-fernandes-benefit-match-for-stan-bowles-at-loftus-road.

Plenty of positive comments have also been left, including the following:

"Would be a lovely thing to do for our greatest ever player. Stan the Man for ever." Marie Billing, Greenford

"Stan needs the help of the club he put on the map." Stephen Regan, Harrow

"He was a great player that was a great servant of the club & not all about how long you play." Michael Spiers, Apsley Guise
