Nedum Onuoha has revealed his desire to become a striker.

The QPR defender modelled the 2015-16 shirt this week, and reckons were he to be reincarnated he would be modelled as a front man rather than chasing his tail at the back.

The 28-year-old was only half joking after a career 232 games trying to destroy rather than create.

He said: “As a defender you’re always trying to catch someone else.

“You’re always being led. Just when you get up to fourth speed, they can change direction.

Joy of defending: Onuoha suffers after Arsenal defeat

“Word of advice to anyone coming up through the academy system, don’t be a defender.

“You’re constantly following other people and after a few hundred games of it - you just want to go up front and enjoy yourself.

“If there was another position available, it would be that midfield slot just in front of the back four. You only have to move five yards at most.”

Onuoha and the rest of the squad were back in training this week, and the former Manchester City player insisted pre-season was as much about bonding as building up fitness.

Onuoha explained: “You’re not going to win every game in the season.

“So when you lose you need to regroup and look to team spirit. Teams that haven’t had that find it hard to get back to a winning mentality."
