If QPR do manage to persuade Everton to sell striker Nikica Jelavic, there will be at least one Rangers player more than delighted to welcome him.

Danny Simpson was one of the helpless QPR defenders led a merry dance by the Croat in Saturday's FA Cup tie – a match that saw the marksman bag two of the goals in a 4-0 win and come agonisingly close to a hat-trick after getting on the end of a number of moves and missing a penalty.

Jelavic has faded after a blistering spell under David Moyes and appears out of favour since Roberto Martinez took over, encouraging Rangers to make an approach.

“If he plays like that for us, I'll be happy,” Simpson said after the Goodison Park drubbing.

“He's obviously a top player. He's shown that today. He's still a top striker.

“I don't know whether it's true about the interest or whether there is a possibility of him coming in, but he's a Premier League striker and if he does come, it would give everyone a lift and everyone would welcome him into the group.”
