CLINT Hill took a huge step towards a new QPR contract last night – if his manager’s praise of the defender is anything to go by.

The Rangers stalwart’s deal runs out in the summer, but the 34-year-old is one of the few to get in Harry Redknapp’s good books in a wretched season.

The manager is planning a new squad with the likes of Hill (pic) at the forefront, and to make sure, he intends a pre-season bonding trip at the Woodbury Park Country Club near Exeter.

It might not have quite the same exotic lure of the cancelled tour to Thailand, but deepest Devon might just be the start of a return to the Premier League, according to the manager.

“There’s a quite of few good characters, and Clint Hill’s had a good season. Character is right up there with ability for me.” said Redknapp. “He’s a good lad, a good pro, and there’s one or two others like him around as well.”

“I’ve been to Woodbury about six times, and the facilities are good down there, and maybe we can get a game against Torquay, Plymouth or Exeter as well.

“If we go on a pre-season trip we can have a bit of team bonding and try and get out of the (Championship) league."
