MATTY Phillips took a buffeting in his first QPR outing and was glad of it.

It proved his broken arm had healed nicely, although a fourth 1-0 win for Rangers just about limped over the line.

It was the first outing of the season for the winger of whom big things are expected, when he came on as a second-half sub for Bobby Zamora, and one that left him breathing hard by the end.

He said: “I’m glad to have got on today. Towards the end I was out on my feet, but my arm feels fine and it was getting knocks on it with no reaction.

“No game’s going to come easy, and without playing as well as we can do, we still get the three points.”

A single Charlie Austin goal was the decider against Birmingham and Phillips was looking forward to more of the same.
He added: “Charlie’s game is goals and hopefully he can get more. I want as many assists as possible and my fair share of goals – and hopefully QPR can return to the Premier League.”
