QPR coach Chris Ramsey admits he’s yet to speak to Charlie Austin about taking a penalty against Liverpool tomorrow.

Ramsey laughed when suggested that chance would be a fine thing against a team who last season had totted up most home spot-kicks than any other club in Premier League history.

But the man in charge was adamant his leading scorer was big enough to put the disappointment of last week’s miss against West Ham behind him.

“Charlie came into the coaches’ room after West Ham, but he’s got nothing to apologise for," Ramsey said.

“People do beat themselves up. But great goalscorers bounce back and he’s on the way to becoming that.

“Strikers have that sort of confidence others don’t. He has to overcome that miss mentally and find the same fighting spirit he's had all season.

“The boys rallied round and told him he’d done great. But we really didn’t capitalise on the chances we had.

Backing: Chris Ramsey

“Most of our performances have been consistent, but we need more goals from around the pitch rather than just Charlie.

“There’s not much more we can do than put the chances away we create.

“It was more annoying than anything else when we smash a ball across the box against West Ham and there’s no-one there to run in and side-foot it home like we did in training.”
