QPR boss Mark Hughes is closing in on the signings of striker Andy Johnson and defender Ryan Nelsen.

Former Fulham frontman Johnson is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at Craven Cottage.

The 31-year-old worked under Hughes during his time in charge in SW6 and is keen to hook up again with his former boss.

Nelsen is also available on a free transfer after leaving Spurs following a short-term deal at White Hart Lane.

Hughes brought the experienced centre-half to England in 2004 to join him at Blackburn Rovers.

And the Welshman is poised to add him to his squad at Loftus Road as he looks to bolster his backline for the new campaign.
