JOEY Barton has been hit with a massive 12-game ban and a £75,000 fine following his red card at Manchester City last week.
The QPR midfielder was already facing a four-match suspension for an off-the-ball clash with Carlos Tevez before he kicked out at Sergio Aguero and attempted to headbutt Vincent Kompany as tempers boiled over at the Etihad Stadium.
Bad-boy Barton was slapped with two additional charges by the Football Association over the incident, although he denied the second charge regarding the clash with Kompany.
However, the Rangers captain saw his appeal thrown out during a hearing this afternoon, and now faces an uncertain future.
QPR have vowed to launch their own internal investigation into the incident, which could see Barton face further punishment for his actions.
The chairman of the Regulatory Commission stated after the hearing: “There are rules of conduct that should be adhered to, and such behaviour tarnishes the image of football in this country, particularly as this match was the pinnacle of the domestic season and watched by millions around the globe.”
