Chris Ramsey raced to the defence of QPR keeper Robert Green after a poor kick handed Chelsea a last gasp win in today's west London derby.

Rangers looked to have secured a brave draw, plus a vital point in the battle against relegation, when Green's failed clearance let in Cesc Fabregas for an 88th minute winner – Chelsea's fist shot on goal.

Ramsey said: “I thought the players did really well. I'm really disappointed, with the manner we let the goal in.

“I'm not blaming Robert Green. It wasn't one of his best kicks, but we had a long time to defend that properly and we didn't, for the first time in the game.

“You know when a ball goes out wide, and there are eight players behind the ball, you can't blame (Green) at that stage. You have to defend it better.

“We're in this predicament because the goals have been so soft. I'd have been more 'pleased', or at least accepting, if someone had done something with clever movement or pulled something out of the bag.

“But we could have defended that one miles better than we did. All that running everyone did went to waste.

“The players did give the fans something to hope about for most of the day. Why I'm sick here is because I think we could have given the fans a big boost by getting a point against a top, talented team. They'd have been delighted to have stolen the points.”
