Ian Holloway has revealed that Josh Scowen turned down a Premier League club to sign for his Championship outfit.
The buoyant Rs boss reckons that shows the character of the player who became the club’s first signing of the summer.
"I’m delighted," enthused Holloway. "Les Ferdinand, Gary Penrice and myself met him a few weeks ago and we had a chat. We discussed what we could offer him and we told him why we wanted him. And he had other choices so we are delighted he chose us for the right reasons."
Elaborating on the reasons, Holloway added: "Considering the choices he had, we are thrilled. One was a Premier League club and one was a big Championship club who would probably have paid more than we will.
"So for me he has come for the right reasons.
"I think, as I say, Gary [Penrice] has come in and to assist me and Les in the type of person we sign in future.
"He’s a London lad, been a good player and played nearly every game for Barnsley last season. He’s a good age and a free transfer.
"Josh has bought into what I’m talking about and how I see him play, how I see us playing and how I see him being part of it. Hopefully he believes I can help him and go on to a higher level because he’s turned that down. He turned down a Premier League club and I think that speaks volumes for him."
