MARK Hughes admits QPR could beat the drop without hitting the magic 40-point mark.
Only three times in the last decade have needed to reach that total to secure Premier League survival, with West Brom escaping relegation on just 34 in 2005.
Rangers have 21 points heading into the final 12 games of the season, and are only out of the bottom three on goal difference.
But Sparky says his side could stay up without breaking the 40-point barrier.
He told the Chronicle: “From our point of view, we just want to focus on that 40 like everybody does at this stage of the season.
“But you could find it will possibly be less than that [needed to stay up]. I wouldn't want to bank on it being less than 40 and hoping to survive.”
