Brentford produced a vintage away performance to claim a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Preston, inflicting North End's first home defeat of the season.

The Bees took the lead midway through the first half as Nico Yennaris headed home after Florian Jozefzoon's cross was saved by Chris Maxwell.

The Lancashire side were back on level terms two minutes before half time as Sean Maguire was given time and space to fire home.

Seconds later, Jordan Hugill crashed into Yennaris, knocking the Bees midfielder out cold.

Brentford rallied in the second half and Romaine Sawyers, who replaced the midfielder, restored the lead.

But the Bees had only themselves to blame as they failed to sufficiently clear a ball into the box with Tom Barkhuizen rifling home.

However, you never write off this team, and Jozefzoon teed up Ollie Watkins to tap home the winner.

Dan Bentley – Nothing he could have done about the goals in a typical Dan Bentley performance. 7

Henrik Dalsgaard – Produced some brilliant defending as Preston looked, repeatedly, for an equaliser. 7

John Egan – Made a crucial block to deny Sean Maguire. 7

Andreas Bjelland – Had a shaky start, losing an aerial duel with Jordan Hugill and forced to clear the ball for a throw in after a substandard first touch. He grew in confidence as the game went on and was assured in the second half. 7

Josh Clarke – Growing in confidence as he gets used to his new role in the side at left back. Another impressive outing. 7

Ryan Woods – The midfielder was sat in the quarterback role and helped dictate play further forward, working well with Kamo Mokotjo to keep the home side quiet. 7

Kamo Mokotjo – After a slow start, the South African started to dominate in the midfield with Ryan Woods and the pair worked brilliantly as a duo. 7

Nico Yennaris – The midfielder has a knack for being in the right place at the right time in the penalty area. He is the goal threat in the middle of the park and the presence of Woods and Mokotjo assists that. 8

Florian Jozefzoon – The standout player this afternoon. Showed signs of brilliance down the right flank and it was his shot that led to Yennaris' opener and latterly teed up Ollie Watkins for Brentford's third. 9

Lasse Vibe – Worked his socks off with some magnificent skills and tired the home defence. 7

Ollie Watkins – A quiet game at times but got into the right place at the right time to make it 3-2 7.

Romaine Sawyers – Restored Brentford's lead after the break with a shot that took a deflection on the way in. 7

Sergi Canos – Lively when he came on. 6

Neal Maupay – Not enough time to earn a rating. N/A
