CHELSEA fans turned on manager Andre Villas-Boas as the Blues sunk to a 2-0 defeat at Goodison.

Chants of “you don't know what you're doing” followed the coach's substitutions, as a clueless and uncreative Chelsea looked lost almost throughout.

Gary Cahill, who had an impressive debut at home to Manchester United last weekend, was benched by Villas-Boas.

The Portuguese returned the much maligned Jose Bosingwa to right back, while moving Branislav Ivanovic inside to partner David Luiz in the middle.

Chelsea had a forgettable start. With just five minutes on the clock, a Bosingwa throw-in went awry, Frank Lamaprd made a hash of rescuing it, and Steven Pienaar ran onto it 30 yards out.

The South African, a Chelsea transfer target 12 months back, bustled through and managed to muscle off the incoming Ivanovic – to rifle the ball into the roof of the net.

There might be some expectation that Chelsea would respond to being behind; but any response was too subtle for most to see.

The half dragged-on to a torpid conclusion: the visitors creating next to nothing. Little changed after the break.

With just over 20 minutes left to play, Villas-Boas decided a change was needed. But the change he made – Florent Malouda coming on for Michael Essien – did not please the travelling fans, a large section of whom who made their feelings heard with that chant.

Three minutes later Chelsea were two behind. Denis Stracqualursi charged through Ashley Cole and rushed into the box with the ball. Bosingwa attempted to close him down, but the Agentinian shot across both him and Petr Cech and into the net.

Villas-Boas decided to mix things up again: bringing on Romelu Lukaku for Juan Mata; while deciding to keep on the ineffective Fernando Torres.

And up the chants went again from the away end: this time with a chaser from the home fans of “you're getting sacked in the morning.”

The last man to do the job didn't even make it to the morning after losing here.
