Brentford have appointed the former chief operating officer for the London 2012 bid team as a non-executive director of the board for the new ground.

Bees fan Mike Powers has been involved with the successful Olympic bid for the past five years, and his arrival at Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd follows the resignation of Ian Jones on May 1.

And Chairman Greg Dyke reckons Power's appointment is a major boost in the development of the new community stadium.

He said: "To attract someone of Mike's stature and experience to help us with the project is a real coup for the club. As work intensifies on the design and the commercial negotiations to come up with a viable scheme, it is essential that we have a strong team on the Lionel Road board."
