For the eighth time in their history, Brentford's season came to an end in the play-offs after a 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, giving Boro a 5-1 win on aggregate.

The Bees fell behind to a Lee Tomlin strike in the first half before Kike settled the tie soon after half-time.

Albert Adomah rounded off a one-sided scoreline to send Boro to Wembley and end the Bees' season.

It marked the end of Mark Warburton's reign at Griffin Park with the Brentford manager leaving due to not wanting to be a part of owner Matthew Benham's new structure.

He said: “I didn't have a speech for the players (after the final whistle). We will see them today.

“David and I are here until May 30 and it's about doing our job. We'll see the players today and the staff over the next seven to 10 days.”
