Middlesex County League (Sunday)

It was celebration time on Sunday for London Falcons and FC Bridge after clinching the Division One title and promotion from Division Two respectively.

Falcons, from Bedfont, have been going toe to toe all season with British Airways (Sunday) for the Division One title, and going into the winner-takes-all clash against them in the final game of the season on Sunday, only goal difference separated the two sides.

It was BA who took an early lead, but Falcons levelled from the spot after the break through Spencer Mitchell after Tom Dyerson had been taken out, and took the lead just three minutes later when Dyerson converted a one on one.

But three minutes later, a handball in the box from Dan Lee gave BA the chance to level from the spot, which they did, leaving Falcons to sweat it out for the last 25 minutes before being able to celebrate the title.

Manager Sam Elliott said: “We may have no fingernails left after without doubt the closest title race around this season and the longest 25 minutes known to man, but the Falcons created a little bit of club history, and our first double is without question our finest ever achievement.”

Both Falcons and BA will now be promoted to the Premier Division for the 2014/15 season.

Promotion: FC Bridge

Meanwhile, FC Bridge, from Uxbridge, capped a memorable first season as a club by adding promotion from Division Two to the Division Two League Cup trophy they already had in the bag.

Despite losing 2-0 to Westpoint United in April, the side they thrashed 6-1 in the cup final, Bridge sealed promotion as runners up to their league and cup rivals.

Manager Bazza Walsh said: “It’s been a fantastic first season as a side. We’ve achieved a huge amount, and to have promotion and some silverware at the end of it shows just how good the players have been. They’ve done the shirt proud throughout, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Rivalry: FC Bridge beat Westpoint in the Division Two Cup final

With rumours abound that both Westpoint and FC Bridge will be promoted to the Premier Division and skip Division One, a summer of strengthening lies ahead.

Walsh added: “Myself and the chairman have already started making plans for next season. There’s two or three targets we’re working on at the moment. If the rumours are true there’s no doubt that we’ll need a stronger squad in the Premier Division.”
